Anwar arrives in Vladivostok, to give a keynote address at the Eastern Economic Forum

VLADIVOSTOK: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived safely in Vladivostok, Russia, to begin his two-day working visit to the country in conjunction with the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) which began yesterday (3 Sept).
Earlier, the plane carrying the Prime Minister and the Malaysian delegation landed safely at Vladivostok International Airport at about 6.30am Malaysian time.
Anwar's arrival was welcomed by the Malaysian Ambassador to Russia, Datuk Cheong Loon Lai; Director of the 3rd Asia Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ludmilla Vorobieva; Vice Governor of Primorskii Region, Aleksei Nazdratenko and Vice Mayor Daria Stegniy.
Bernama previously reported that the main program of the visit included a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in addition to giving a keynote speech during the plenary session at the forum.
Prime Minister Anwar is expected to reiterate Malaysia's desire to join the BRICS intergovernmental organization, as Russia assumes the position of BRICS Chairman in 2024.
This is Anwar's first visit to Russia since assuming office in November 2022.
Also accompanying the Prime Minister on this visit are the Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and senior officials of the ministry.
