Seafood Restaurant compounded RM1,500
Oktober lalu, Ekin mendakwa harga yang dikenakan sebuah kedai di medan selera Tepian Tebrau terlampau mahal iaitu berjumlah RM1,260.
Last October, Ekin claimed that the price charged by a shop at the Tepian Tebrau food court was too expensive, amounting to RM1,260.
PASIR GUDANG: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has imposed a compound of RM1,500 on seafood restaurant at Tepian Tebrau here
Its Deputy Minister, Fuziah Salleh, said the compound was imposed after his side completed two investigation papers against the traders involved.
"This dealer was compounded for the offense of not putting a price tag and there is an element of profiteering which is selling at an unreasonable price.
"The dealer involved has been charged a compound of RM500 for not putting up a price tag and RM1,000 for profiteering," he said.
He said this in a press conference after officiating the 2023 Rahmah Kasih Sayang Bangsa Johor Carnival at the Pasir Gudang City Stadium here on Saturday.
Also present were Johor KPDN Director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo; Pasir Gudang Mayor, Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman and Member of Parliament for Pasir Gudang, Hassan Abdul Karim.
Fuziah said that what happened should be a lesson for both parties, namely that traders need to do business transparently while consumers need to know the price of the products or food they buy.
He explained that consumers have the right to know the price before eating or making any purchase.
Fuziah added, the compound action was not intended as a punishment for the trader to cause him to close the business but rather as a lesson to all parties.
Last October, the wife of Mawi singer Ekin Rahmat expressed her dissatisfaction by claiming that the price charged by a shop at the Tepian Tebrau food court was too expensive, amounting to RM1,260.
However, the owner of the premises in a reply video gave an explanation regarding the price charged and informed that the price was for a meal ordered for 20 people.
He also detailed every detail of the meal that Ekin ordered as a justification for the price
