Selangor FC player Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar led the national under-23 squad to victory when they beat China 1-0 in a friendly match in Shanghai a while ago.

The goal in injury time gave Juan Torres Garrido his first win as the coach of Young Tigers replacing E. Elavarasan last October.

When the action at the Jinshan Sports Center Stadium looked set to end in a draw, however, a corner kick earned by the national team changed everything.

The centre-back who stepped up to help the attacking machine became a thorn in the flesh for the home team when he exploded in the 95th minute.

In the first half of the match, China dominated the match through several attempts, but the country's young players were able to defend.

After the break, the home team was almost in front, but their attempt in the 46th minute was denied by goalkeeper Azim Al Amin Kamaruddin.

Six minutes later, Harith Haiqal fired a long-range shot towards the home team's goal but was caught by the goalkeeper, Huang Zihao.

The victory was certainly a relief for Garrido, but on Tuesday they will again be tested by the home side who want to make up for the disappointment of losing in this first leg
