KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 22,413 cases of COVID-19 were reported during the 51st Epidemiology Week (ME 51/2023) which is for the period from 17 to 22 December, compared to 17,307 cases recorded in the previous week.

Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad in a statement on Saturday said, it recorded a 29.5 percent increase compared to ME50.

However, according to him, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 showed a decrease of 23.1 percent, from 26 cases to 20 cases.
"Overall, the number of admissions of COVID-19 patients to health facilities in ME50 compared to ME49 also showed an increase.

"For non-critical bed occupancy increased to 1.5 percent while Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed occupancy increased to 3.6 percent," he said.

As of December 22, only 16,347,130 Malaysians or 50.1 percent have received the first booster dose vaccination injection and 828,686 residents or 2.5 percent received the second booster dose.

In this regard, the Ministry of Health (KKM) said it will continue to monitor the situation of COVID-19 and take immediate and appropriate action when necessary.

In fact, the Ministry of Health also advises the public to practice good judgment and self-control.
