PUTRAJAYA: Datuk R. Ramanan, who was recently appointed as the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, remains in the position of Chairman of the Special Committee of the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra) until now.
"The status-quo remains," he said in commenting on the status of the position when asked by the media, when he was found after scanning the time recorder card at the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) here today as a symbol of officially starting work at the ministry.
The Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament was appointed as Mitra Chairman last April by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and yesterday Anwar announced the appointment of Ramanan as Deputy Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, replacing K.Saraswathy who currently holds the position of Deputy Minister of Unity.
Meanwhile, Ramanan said he had been briefed on KUSKOP's achievements and agenda for 2023, in addition to some aspirations outlined for 2024, and he was committed to continuing the ministry's idea to create a holistic ecosystem for entrepreneurs in the country.
Among the aspirations outlined include increasing the participation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in high-impact industries to strengthen the domestic supply chain and global value chain as well as increase the capacity and ability of entrepreneurs to be more resilient and viable.
Ramanan said he would discuss with Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick to find a way to create a larger community of entrepreneurs.
