KUALA LUMPUR: Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (FOMCA) President Professor Datuk N. Marimuthu was re-elected as President of Consumers International for a second term at the annual general meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya yesterday.
FOMCA Secretary General Dr T. Saravanan in a statement today informed that Marimuthu will take on the task for the next four years.
"It is indeed a great honor for Malaysia when the President of FOMCA has been re-elected as President of Consumers International which is proof of Marimuthu's dynamic leadership at the global level," he said.
Marimuthu was elected to the position for the first term in 2019.
Consumers International is the umbrella body for consumer associations around the world with 200 members in over 100 countries to empower and fight for consumer rights.
According to the statement, Marimuthu is the Chairman of the National Consumer Complaint Center Board and he once served as the Chairman of the National Consumer Advisory Council at the Ministry of Domestic Trade.
Marimuthu is also the Chairman of the Malaysian Standards and Accreditation Council (MSAC) and has been involved in the consumer movement for over 40 years.
