Reezal Merican is the new chairman of MATRADE

Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican was appointed as the ninth chairman of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) with immediate effect.
He has extensive experience in government service and has served as Minister of Housing and Local Government (2021-2022), Minister of Youth and Sports (2020-2021) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2015-2018). In addition, he was the Chairman of Amanah Raya Bhd from 2013 to 2015.
"I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the chairman of MATRADE. Through this role, coupled with the leadership of the minister of Miti (Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry), we are able to drive Malaysia's trade and export performance to remain excellent and achieve stronger growth ," he said in a statement today.
According to MATRADE, following Reezal Merican's extensive experience in international affairs, diplomacy, government administration and industrial relations, he is in a good position to lead and lead Malaysia's national trade promotion agenda and facilitate export-oriented investment into the country.
His appointment as chairman will contribute to the growth and diversification of Malaysia's exports in new and existing global markets, the agency said.
MATRADE is an agency under Miti and is mandated to implement trade promotion initiatives for the country.
Established in 1993 after the enactment of the MATRADE Act 1992, the agency carries out two core activities namely exporter development and export promotion.
Currently, MATRADE has six regional offices in Malaysia and 46 global offices that are always ready to assist Malaysian companies through export capacity building programs, trade advisors and financial facilities, business matching, market intelligence and market access, project negotiations and e-commerce.
