SEPANG: Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) of China, Zhao Leji arrived here today to begin a three-day working visit to Malaysia.

The Air China plane carrying Zhao and his delegation landed at Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), here, at 8.15 this morning.

Their arrival was welcomed by Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Alice Lau Kiong Yieng and Head of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohd Aini Atan.


Zhao then inspected the guard of honor consisting of 26 officers and members of the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment led by Captain Mohd Hafeez Abdul Halim.

Malaysia is Zhao's last country on a three-country tour after Morocco and Senegal.

China's top legislator is scheduled to hold a bilateral delegation meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives Datuk Johari Abdul and Speaker of the National Assembly Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim today.

During his visit, he is scheduled to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He will also go to Melaka as part of his tour which includes visiting Jonker Walk, the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum and the Malacca Straits before departing for Beijing on Saturday.




China’s top legislator Zhao Leji  has just arrived in Malaysia.

Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, will make the visit at the invitation of the Speaker of parliament of Malaysia, Johari Abdul.

The former anti-corruption chief was recently appointed as the new head of the top legislative body the National Peoples Congress.
