KUCHING, Nov 8 -- The Sarawak Budget 2021 will be tabled tomorrow at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) which is commencing its sitting at the DUN Building here until Nov 13, State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar said today.
The budget to be tabled by the Chief Minister and state Finance Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as Supply (2021) Bill, 2020 would be one of the five government Bills to be heard in this august House, where the sitting is shortened to five days due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The other Bills (to be tabled) are the Supplementary Supply (2020) Bill, 2020; Temporary Measures for Reducing the impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Bill, 2020; Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill, 2020; and Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2020,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after a DUN Sarawak pre-council meeting here, he said two questions and one motion submitted by opposition representatives were rejected by him from being tabled in the coming sitting from Nov 9 to 13.
He said the two rejected questions came from David Wong Kee Woan (PH-DAP-Pelawan) and Irene Mary Chang Oi Ling (PH-DAP-Bukit Assek), adding that both of them had been informed on the rejection of their questions by DUN Secretary, Pele Peter Tinggom, through a letter dated Nov 6.
Mohd Asfia said Wong's question was on having the state election during the COVID-19 pandemic which was disallowed for being anticipatory under Standing Orders 20(2)(8) and 35(2) of the State Assembly, while Chang's question on claims of the bible being distorted was rejected under Standing Orders 20(2)(c), 20(2)(8) and 52(1)(10).
Wong also submitted a motion for the Sarawak government to seek relaxation on out-of-state voters in the state’s election from the Election Commission.
“His motion is on the Sarawak government’s demand to the Election Commission to facilitate Sarawak registered voters living outside the state to vote either by setting up local polling stations in Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang and Sabah, or allow them to vote through postal ballots,” he said.
He said for the third motion was submitted by Bukit Assek assemblywoman Irene Chang to ask the state government to make full disclosure to assembly on the agreed terms of settlement with Petronas.
“All private members’ motion under Standing Order 23 will be heard on Tuesday (Nov 10),” he said, adding that there would also be a motion on the election of Senator on Tuesday, as the term of the incumbent Senator, Datuk Dr Nuing Jeluing would expire on Dec 10 this year.
