KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 -- Former PAS deputy president Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa has been given a discharge, but not amounting to an acquittal (DNNA) on 16 counts of criminal breach trust (CBT) over his salary as Nassar Foundation chairman.

Shah Alam Sessions Court Judge Rozilah Salleh made the ruling on Sept 22 after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) agreed to the representations filed by Nasharudin against the charges on July 7.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Zaki Mohd Salleh, when contacted, confirmed the matter and said that the politician still faces 14 other counts of CBT amounting to RM3.65 million.

The court then fixed Nov 20 for case management.

On Oct 22 last year, Nasharudin Mat Isa pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to 30 charges of CBT involving RM3,677,669.80.

The payments included for the purchase of a shop in Bangi, purchase of 25,000 share units, catering fees for his son's wedding, tuition fees for his son and his salary as Nassar Foundation chairman for 16 months, personal accounts, and research grants.

The offences were allegedly committed at CIMB Bank, Jalan Sinar Pagi; Country Heights, Hulu Langat; and Maybank Menara Felda branch at Persiaran KLCC, between 2015 and 2018.

All the offences were committed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, whipping and a fine, if convicted.
