KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 -- Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) team, OZIL Energy, emerged as the first runner up in the 2020 Edition of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Laurie Dake Challenge.
UTP, in a statement today, said the team comprised five undergraduates, namely Sathes Kumar, Syafiq Md Noor, Roodra Manogaran and Kon Jwo Jiunn from the Petroleum Geoscience programme, as well as Chong Wei Jian from the Petroleum Engineering programme.
“Every year, multi-disciplinary teams from universities worldwide participate in the EAGE Laurie Dake Challenge, which is a long-running project for students that is set over the course of eight to ten months.
“OZIL Energy was one of the 13 out of 48 teams worldwide selected as the semi-finalist, and for the second-round submission, the team was selected by the judges as the top six teams to progress to the final round,” it said.
For the first round, OZIL Energy presented an exploration and appraisal programme for the Ormen Lange gas field. Using the available seismic and well data, the students had to integrate all the available information to address the subsurface uncertainties.
In the second round, the team was required to present a field development programme, the evaluation of its potential, the design of the subsea facilities, the processing of hydrocarbons and economic analysis of the field, among other topics, as well as a three-minute video on what was done for the development of the field.
