KUANTAN, Sept 3 -- Three people including a woman were injured when the car they were travelling in crashed while being chased by a Bukit Aman police highway patrol (EMPV) in Kampung Paya Bungor here yesterday.
Pahang traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Supt Kamarulzaman Jusoh said police believed the suspects, aged between 21 and 32, tried to flee because the Proton Satria they were travelling in had been reported stolen in Kuala Lumpur.
He said the chase began at the Sri Jaya toll plaza, Maran, near here, after the EMPV personnel conducting checks there saw the suspects’ car entering the East Coast Highway 1 from the direction of Kuala Lumpur at high speed.
"The car then turned back to go against the traffic and re-enter the toll plaza, before exiting to Jalan Kuantan-Maran heading to Kuantan.
"The EMPV continued pursuing the suspects’ car, which eventually went out of control before colliding head-on with a lorry and spinning around to hit the EMPV,” he said when contacted today.
Kamarulzaman said the suspects, who suffered head injuries, were sent to the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan here while the EMPV personnel and lorry driver escaped unhurt.
