PUTRAJAYA, Sept 22 -- There should be no compromise on those who belittle members of the security forces who had put their lives on the line to safeguard Sabah’s and the country’s sovereignty.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said although the politician who had described the intrusion in Tanduo, Lahad Datu in 2013 as only ‘a show’ has apologised, he had been rude and had gone overboard with his statement.

“Although he has apologised, this is not a licence for people to hurt the feelings of others, and then apologise.

“I hope this does not happen (again). I was made to understand many Sabahans want to lodge police reports. I will leave this to the police,” he told a media conference after chairing the special ministerial meeting on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) here today.

The Defence Minister said the Tanduo intrusion that claimed the lives of 10 members of the security forces had really happened, adding that no one staged their own death in the incident.

“To me, matters such as this, do not shoot your mouth and then apologise. Although he (politician) has said sorry, his apology will not bring back their lives,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said political leaders must be sensitive towards the children who lost their fathers and wives who lost their husbands in the incident.

“In the media, we can see how the families of those killed were devastated upon receiving the bodies. So, I believe this person is someone who is irresponsible and insensitive,” he said.

Yesterday, a video recording of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Segama candidate Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi allegedly insulting the security forces when talking about the Tanduo incident went viral on social media.

Following this, the former Tourism, Arts and Culture minister had apologised over his statement, saying that his statements had been misinterpreted.

Sports-related businesses can now operate until 2 am - Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA, September 22 -- The operating hours for all sports-related premises have been extended to 2 am, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

He said the decision was reached after the government listened to the problems faced by sports-related business operators.

“Recently, I announced that the operating hours for eateries and convenience stores had been extended to 2 am. Sports-related businesses such as futsal, on the other hand, had to close at midnight.

“These (sports premises) operators lamented that many (players) only come in to play after Maghrib or Isyak prayers, but by then there are many teams waiting in line. On those grounds, we are now allowing the operating hours to be extended to 2 am,” he said at the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) media conference here today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 136 individuals were detained for flouting RMCO directives yesterday, including in the Enhanced Movement Control Order areas in Kedah, who had stepped out of their homes without valid reasons.

Also, 64 illegal migrants and a boat skipper were arrested under Ops Benteng and five vehicles seized, he added.

PUTRAJAYA, September 22 -- Those who are COVID-19 positive will not be allowed to vote in the Sabah state election on Saturday, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this was decided by the Special Meeting of Ministers on Implementation of Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

"We have considered. Those who are positive and receiving treatment in hospital will not be allowed to vote. We do not want (to create) a polling cluster,” he told a news conference on RMCO developments here today.

However, those who are symptomatic would be taken to a special polling place prepared by the Election Commission (EC) to cast their ballots, he added.

Ismail Sabri said individuals under quarantine would also be allowed to vote but have to apply to the District Health Office so that they can be allotted times to be taken to the special polling place prepared by EC.
