GEORGE TOWN, September 25 -- Penang police crippled a heroin processing laboratory, arresting three men and seizing various types of drugs, worth RM587,000, in a raid on a luxury condominium in Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam near here, Tuesday.

State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said acting on information and intelligence, a police team busted the laboratory at 12.30 am and arrested a 33-year-old man at the premises.

"In the raid, the police also seized 17,155gm of heroin, 15,100gm (caffeine powder), 8,670gm (syabu) and 15 bottles of chemical liquid all worth RM587,000. Police also seized a CZ 75D Compact pistol with magazine, holster and 43 live ammunition," he said at a press conference here today.

He said police were still investigating whether the confiscated pistol was used for criminal activities but did not rule out the possibility that the firearm was carried for protection while carrying out drug trafficking activities.

Mustafa Kamal Gani said police also arrested two other men, aged 24 and 26, in Butterworth near here because they were believed to be members of the syndicate.
