KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 -- PAS today called on all UMNO members of Parliament said to be supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to return to appreciate the desire and commitment built by UMNO and PAS under the Muafakat Nasional cooperation.
Its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Muafakat Nasional was created based on the policy and objective to unite Muslims in the country apart from defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) which comprised PKR, DAP and Amanah.
Therefore, if the speculation is true that some UMNO MPs have change their support, then they are clearly not adhering to the understanding and agreement enshrined in the Muafakat Nasional charter signed on Sept 14 2019, he said in a statement.
Takiyuddin also hoped the UMNO leadership would shed more light on the speculation.
If, the shift in support is really happening, it is a move to topple the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government established based on the cooperation of Barisan Nasional (BN), Bersatu, PAS, Parti Gabungan Sarawak as well as several other parties, he said.
On Wednesday, PKR president and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed he had secured strong and confident support to form the new federal government.
On the same day, UMNO president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi admitted receiving information that several UMNO MPs are supporting Anwar.
Ahmad Zahid was reported as saying that the support of UMNO MPs for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was on individual basis as UMNO and BN are not component parties of PN.
Meanwhile, the media reported that 19 UMNO MPs are said to be supporting Anwar.
