KUALA LUMPUR: Police have smashed the Ah Tee Jinjang drug syndicate with the arrest of four more members, who were the remnants of the group, and seized RM4.8mil worth of syabu kept in an underground compartment of a house in Batu Caves.

In March, five men from the same syndicate, including the mastermind, were arrested in Taman Bukit Idaman, Batu Caves, with RM1.27mil worth of syabu seized.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said in the latest arrest on May 2, the four suspects had been active for more than a year.

"All of them, including a woman, were hiding out at a hotel in Jalan Pasar Baru here.

"We believe they were planning ways to get the remaining of their drug stash," he told a press conference on Sunday.

He added that one of the suspects, a 35-year-old woman, led police to a house in Taman Bukit Idaman, where the remaining drugs were hidden.

"They actually kept the drugs in a secret compartment underneath the floor, and even covered the opening with cement.

"We seized 96.7kg of syabu with a market value of RM4.8mil," he said.

With the arrests of the four suspects aged between 35 and 52, Comm Mazlan said the Ah Tee Jinjang gang has been busted.

He added that the street value of syabu has dropped in the last few years.

"Back then, a kilogramme of syabu cost about RM70,000. Now it has dropped to RM50,000 per kg," he said.
