A group of teenagers expressed their displeasure of being scolded by residents at a high-rise apartment block by burning almost 100 motorcycles parked at the ground floor of the building early this morning.
The 2.30am incident at Block F, Pangsapuri Angsana, Taman Subang Mewah, USJ 1, Subang Jaya, damaged several flat facilities and the heat from the fire damaged the walls and ceilings of nearby business premises.
Meanwhile, Subang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said that they have arrested five children and teenagers aged between 11 and 15 years old suspected to be involved in the incident.
“The row of motorcycles parked at Block F was burned, causing almost 100 motorcycles to be burnt apart from causing damage to several structures and other facilities on the ground level.
“According to the information, the suspects aged between 11 and 15 years old were arrested to help with investigation and will be remanded this morning.
“The cause of the incident was due to the dissatisfaction of the suspects for being scolded by the residents of the flat for making too much noise at the block,” he said in a statement, Harian Metro reports.
The incident also caused electricity and water outage as well as the malfunction of apartment block's elevator.
The suspects were believed to have set fire to the motorcycles using petrol after the forensic police and Fire and Rescue Department found a plastic bottle containing traces of petrol under a car near the location of the incident.
