KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown reportedly arrived in Malaysia yesterday.
An online portal quoted Rewcastle-Brown as saying that her arrival went by smoothly, believed to be in reference to an arrest warrant issued against her in 2015 by Bukit Aman.
The warrant was issued for offences under Section 124B and 124I of the Penal code.
Police at the time issued a statement that they would place her on the ASEANAPOL wanted list and proceed with applications of an INTERPOL Red Notice.
Section 124B covers alleged involvement in activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy while Section 124I for disseminating false reports.
Rewcastle-Brown told the online portal that she had spoken to a few friends who convinced her it was now safe for her to enter Malaysia.
Stating she was here voluntarily, Rewcastle-Brown said she had been convinced that the accusations against her had been dropped and the INTERPOL was no longer informed of Malaysia's intention to extradite her.
"I am not here on any official capacity," she was quoted as saying.
The Sarawak-born Rewcastle-Brown was accused of conspiring with Malaysia’s then opposition lawmakers to publish forged documents on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) to sabotage former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Sarawak Report which was previously blocked in Malaysia is now accessible, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The commission, in a statement, said there was no longer a need to block online sites Sarawak Report and Medium after the report on 1MDB was made public.
