IGP Fuzi Harun says a member of the public tipped off police after spotting motorcycle near Danau Kota Lake in Setapak.

Police have recovered a motorcycle believed used by the two killers, whose photofits have been released by police.

SHAH ALAM: A high-powered motorcycle, believed to have been used by gunmen in the murder of Palestinian electrical engineering lecturer Fadi Mohammed al-Batash last Saturday, was found abandoned near the Danau Kota Lake in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, this afternoon.

In confirming this, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the machine was found in good condition.

“Yes, the police have found the motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects during the murder.

“However, I cannot divulge details because the matter is still under investigation,” he told reporters after attending the Selangor police contingent-level briefing for the 14th general election (GE14) here.

It is learnt a passer-by stumbled on the motorcycle near the lake before alerting the police about 1pm.

Elaborating, Fuzi said apart from the motorcycle, the police also obtained the latest clues with regard to the killing as several individuals had come forward to assist in the ongoing investigations.

“Someone has tipped us off but I cannot reveal that information.

“I also cannot confirm whether the suspects are still in the country as we do not have the details on their identities, except for the photofit that we have distributed to the relevant parties to help us locate them (assailants).”

Last Saturday, Fadi, 35, who lectured at a private higher education institution, was shot dead outside the Idaman Puteri Condominium in Setapak while walking towards the Surau Medan Idaman to lead the dawn prayers about 6am.

Two men on a motorcycle were said to have been waiting for the victim for about 20 minutes before firing 10 shots in his direction.

Police have circulated sketches of two suspects linked to the incident at all entrances and exits in the country to detect them.

Meanwhile, Fadi’s remains will be sent back to his home country tomorrow.

University Kuala Lumpur-British Malaysian Institute (UniKL-BMI) human resource department chief Arafiah Aman said the remains would be sent to Surau Medan Idaman, Setapak, here from the Selayang Hospital near here about noon for prayers for the dead after zohor.

“The remains will then be taken to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to be flown to Cairo, Egypt, about 7pm,” she said.

According to Arafiah, the remains would be taken by road to Gaza, which borders Egypt.

“This matter has been confirmed by the Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Anwar H Al Agha. He also said that the Egyptian government has given the ‘green light’ to the route to be taken,” Arafiah said.

According to Malaysia’s Humanitarian Care (MyCare) chief executive officer Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anwar, the process of getting approval for transporting the remains to Gaza was done in collaboration with several agencies in Egypt.
