Penang flood: Precautionary power cuts in place as waters rise
GEORGE TOWN: Penangites are hit by power cuts as Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) takes precautionary measures.
A total of 85 sub-stations in the state were shut down as a precautionary measures after Penang was hit by floods.
TNB Penang general manager Datuk Lim Yew Soon said the action had to be taken when the water rises to a certain level.
The power failure at several water supply pump houses also caused water supply interruptions in Bandar Baru Ayer Itam, Jesselton, Pulau Tikus and Waterfall areas.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is PBAPP chairman, said raw water intake from waterfall treatment plant in Penang Botanic Gardens and Guillemard Water Treatment plant is choked with soil and debris.
“These temporary plants are temporarily unable to treat and supply treated water.
“The affected areas are Jesselton Heights, areas near Penang Botanic Gardens and Waterfall Road as well as certain areas in Pulau Tikus,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said residents at Air Rajah Road, Gottlieb Road, Fettes Park, Pepper Estate, Elsedale Estate, Hong Seng Estate, Mount Erskine and all nearby areas may experience low water pressure.
He said PBAPP has initiated emergency response actions to normalise water supply to all areas, including pumping additional treated water from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant in Seberang Prai
