PETALING JAYA: A three-year-old Syrian boy and a Palestinian man were rescued after a fire broke out at a shoplot on Jalan Bukit Bintang.
According to Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Department Senior Officer II Mohd Rafee Kusni, both victims, who live in the building, are safe and uninjured.
The child has also been reunited with his parents, who managed to escape the blaze.
An eyewitness had earlier said she believed the unit belonged to an IT company. However, it is learnt that the victims, who are refugees with UNHCR (United Nations Human Rights Commissioner for Refugees) cards, live in the building.
The fire was caused by a faulty air conditioning unit within the building.
Twenty-one firemen in three fire trucks were dispatched from the Hang Tuah and Pudu fire departments to the scene after receiving a call at 8.43am.
The first fire engine arrived at 8.52am and the blaze was put out by 9.09am.
