Elderly man claims trial to sodomising five-year-old grandniece

 

MELAKA: An elderly man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to allegedly sodomising his five-year-old grandniece at a parking lot in Bukit Serindit here.

The 70-year-old accused had his plea recorded before judge Norma Ismail on Friday.

Based on the charge sheet, the septuagenarian allegedly committed the act at the parking lot of a playground at Stadium Tun Fatimah early August this year.

The accused who was unrepresented had allegedly committed the offence under Section 377C of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saab requested the court not to grant bail, fearing the safety of the victim.

However, the court allowed a bail of RM20,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 26 as re-mention date.

The court also barred the accused from coming near the victim.
