IPOH: Perak’s Immigration Department director was among four people arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission this morning over a graft probe involving massage parlours and entertainment outlets in the state.
The director, 57, and the others were detained in several locations in the state between 12.30am and 5.30am today.
The others detained were two businessmen aged 30, and a 26-year-old mechanic.
“They were believed to have offered and received bribes from the outlet operators," said the commission in a statement.
Under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, those found guilty of soliciting or receiving any form of gratification as an inducement for performing (or not performing) a task, face a maximum penalty of 20 years jail and RM10,000 fine, or five times the value of the bribe, whichever is higher.
The Magistrate’s court here had granted a five-day remand to facilitate investigation.
State MACC director Datuk Nooraziah Abd Manaf, when contacted, said the men were arrested at their respective homes, but declined to divulge details.
