SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, the newly-elected president of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), has vowed to bring back the glory days to the Red Giants.
The 51-year-old businessman, who is also the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president, was elected unopposed at the FAS extraordinary general meeting (EGM) yesterday.
“I assure you that we will make a strong claim for honours next season. Our fans must be patient and we need their strong support.”
Subahan, who will also be contesting for the deputy-president’s post at the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) elections on March 25, also called on the new office bearers to work together to improve the game in the state.
“We are one of the poorest state FAs at the moment as we are without the support of our state government.
“But I am confident with the new members on board, we can bring in potential sponsors.
“Our target this season is to remain in the Super League. Once our financial plan is in place, we should bring in better players next season. Trust me, we will be strong in 2018,” said Subahan.
The Red Giants, a record 33-time Malaysia Cup champions, are currently fourth in the Super League standings with eight points from five matches.
Last season, Selangor finished sixth in the Super League and were runners-up in the Malaysia Cup. They lost in the third round of the FA Cup.
