North Korean ambassador Kang Chol’s allegation that Kuala Lumpur is colluding with a foreign government is “deeply insulting to Malaysia”

Anifah: Kang’s remarks deeply insulting to M’sia

PETALING JAYA: North Korean ambassador Kang Chol’s allegation that Kuala Lumpur is colluding with a foreign government is “deeply insulting to Malaysia”, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (pic).

In a statement last night, he said the envoy’s remarks at a press conference yesterday were “culled from delusions, lies and half-truths”.
Anifah rejected Kang’s conclusion that “there could be someone else’s hand behind the investigation” and that Malaysia’s probe was not aimed at finding the cause of death, but was politically motivated.
“When the ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry yesterday, it was emphasised by the deputy secretary-general for bilateral affairs that the police investigation has been done impartially without fear or favour.
“It was also conducted in compliance with Malaysian laws and regulations. Any suggestion to the contrary is deeply insulting to Malaysia, as is the suggestion that Malaysia is in collusion with a foreign government,” said Anifah, who is in Manila attending the Asean Foreign Ministers Retreat.
He said the police investigations were based on all leads available, including those which went beyond, or those not related to the information provided by the embassies concerned or others.
It is also the norm for such cases to be comprehensively investigated, said Anifah.
“It is the responsibility of the Government to do so. The public also rightly demands it. It is for this reason that the information has been made public as and when needed,” he added.
It is also customary for embassies to co-operate fully with the host government, said Anifah, in order to ensure that probes are thorough and credible.
