Pedestrian bridge collapse: Construction worker dead, four hurt, two still trapped

KUALA LUMPUR: A Vietnamese construction worker was killed while four other people were injured after a pedestrian bridge under construction collapsed near Mid Valley Megamall on Jalan Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukum.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Shahrul Othman said two more people, both Bangladeshi nationals, are still trapped in the rubble.

"The injured workers have been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment," he told pressmen at the site on Wednesday.

It was earlier reported that at least two people had been killed in the incident.

The collapsed bridge was 80% completed.

"We are still investigating the cause of the incident," he said.

The Fire and Rescue Department's K9 unit has been deployed to assist in search and rescue operations.

City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani said the department was alerted about the incident at 3.33pm on Wednesday.
