Police detained a university student whose car swerved into an opposing lane and killing a pregnant woman and her four-year-old son.

    PETALING JAYA: Police have detained a university student whose car swerved into an opposing lane and killed a heavily pregnant woman and her four-year-old son.
    The woman, who was eight months pregnant, and her son were travelling in a Perodua Kancil when a Perodua Viva driven by the student Muhammad Zikrul Fahmi Musa, 22, crashed into them.
    Muhammad Zikrul allegedly sped into her lane in an attempt to overtake another vehicle in front of him at Jalan Kalumpang, near Tanjung Malim.
    Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt R. Supramaniam said that the accident occurred at 7.45am yesterday at the 72nd kilometre of Jalan Kalumpang, in front of the Kalumpang Health Clinic.
    The woman, identified as Husnadia Abdul Rani, 30, was a staff nurse who worked at said clinic.
    Her son was identified as Muhammad Qhalif Fayyadh Mohd Faizul.
    Muhammad Zikrul who studies in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, was lightly injured while his passenger, Syarifah Nadia Sheik Mohd Abdul Wahab, 22, also a student at the university, escaped unhurt.
    Supt Supramaniam said that initial investigations revealed that the Perodua Viva was travelling from Kuala Kubu Baru heading towards Tanjung Malim.
    He added that the driver of the Perodua Viva was held for further investigations.
    Supt Supramaniam said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while the remains of the two victims were brought to the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for post-mortem.
