Terengganu MB 'Clueless' About Azizulhasni's Sponsorship Application
AHMAD RAZIF: I have instructed the state Sports Council to carry out an investigation on the matter and will personally contact Azizulhasni for clarification
.KUALA NERUS: Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said he is absolutely clueless about the sponsorship application by national track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang for a road bike to prepare for the Olympic Games.
While expressing regret, Ahmad Razif said he had instructed the state Sports Council to carry out an investigation on the matter and would contact the rider personally for clarification.
He even offered his apology if what Azizulhasni wrote on his Facebook account on the matter earlier today after winning a bronze medal in the Olympic Games, was indeed true.
"I have not yet received verification on this story...thus I cannot comment further without verification and we will make things right," he told reporters after a ceremony with pilgrims of Kuala Nerus state constituency, here, today.
Asked on whether he had received any application from Azizulhasni, Ahmad Razif said until today, to his knowledge, there was none.
"I am not sure...wallahuallam...I do not know who is the manager for Azizulhasni. If there was a mistakes from us, I on behalf of the state government would like to apologise. It is well informed that the state government is really committed in promoting sports," he said.
Ahmad Razif stressed that the state government had always provided various incentives, including land and allocations while cycling is among the most important sports assisted by the state government.
However, despite numerous perceptions, Ahmad Razif said the state government had prepared a welcoming ceremony for him and would organise a roadshow to share his victory and experience.
He added that Azizulhasni would also be given incentives but for now it was a 'secret' and would only be disclosed later.

Olympics Bronze Winner Azizulhasni Thanks Terengganu MB For Not Willing To Buy Him A Bike
Behind the thank you note posted by Malaysia's keirin cyclist, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, to the people who tirelessly gave him moral support and worked hard thus allowing him to win the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Terengganu Menteri Besar received a different note from the country's cycling champ.
Through an Instagram post, the Dungun, Terengganu born Azizulhasni or known as the 'Pocket Rocket Man', had cynically thanked Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman for failing to provide support to him and Fateha Mustapa, Malaysia's sprint cyclist.
Azizulhasni was thankful towards the MB although he was not keen in helping him and Fatehah during their preparation to compete at the Olympic level.
"Thank you for not willing to buy us a 'RoadBike' for our use in our Olympic preparations even though we had sent our proposal for around a year before the Rio Olympics.
"Also thank you for not giving any feedback and keeping quiet when my manager contacted Tuan Menteri Besar," Azizulhasni wrote in his entry earlier.
He added that he shouldn't place the blame fully on Ahmad Razif that his application to get help was rejected because he realised both Fatehah and him underwent training overseas.
"For Datuk MB's information, Fatehah and I, who are World and Olympic level athletes, have always been overlooked by Datuk MB. It is hoped that Datuk MB will take this as something positive and that it will open Datuk MB's eyes as well as those who were supposed to play a role.
"Whatever happens, we are still proud to hail from Terengganu and we are always Ganu," he said.
Earlier today, Azizulhasni contributed to the country's medal count after winning the bronze medal in the keirin event while the gold and silver were won by Jason Kenny from Britain and Matthijs Buchli from Netherlands, respectively.
Azizulhasni hopes that his success will make the people of Malaysia happy.
"Thank you to all my friends who supported and helped me directly or indirectly.
"I want to apologise because I could not list down each and every one of your names, but know that you are always in my heart. I pray that you are always blessed and rewarded with goodness for everything that you gave to me," he said.
Earlier, after Azizulhasni won the bronze medal for the Malaysian contingent, Ahmad Razif said that the Terengganu state government will reward him as an incentive for winning the medal and for inspiring others.
"Thank you Azizulhasni, who never tires in carrying the Malaysia spirit to the world stage. Thank you also to all the coaches and their families. The Terengganu people are proud with the Pocket Rocket Man!," he added, as reported by Bernama.
