DAP rep’s dad in ‘money for housing’ video

GEORGE TOWN: A video clip showing the father of a Penang DAP assemblyman appearing to solicit money in order to obtain low cost housing for people has surfaced on social media.

The video, featuring Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim’s (pic) father, was posted on a blog on Sunday.

“We would like to know what actually happened.

“When did this matter happen? When did the negotiations between the two parties happen?” Penang Gerakan acting state chairman Oh Tong Keong said at a press conference on Monday.

Lim has, however, denied the allegations that her father solicited bribes, claiming that the attack is unfounded.

“There’s a video clip circulating on social media accusing my father of soliciting money from complainants in order to get low medium cost houses.

“My name was mentioned for abusing power.

“I would like to stress that my father has no power to influence the decision of the Penang state government. Neither do I.

“Gerakan’s attack is unfounded and without basis,” she said, reading from a statement at a press conference at her service centre in Jelutong later.

She confirmed that her father was indeed the man in the video but said he was not soliciting bribes.

She claimed the allegations against her father were due to Gerakan leaders tussling for the Sungai Pinang constituency.

“Oh Tong Keong is trying his very best to play up this incident.

“I advise victims to lodge a police report if there were any attempts to solicit money to help them to get government housing, and the police are urged to investigate,” she said.

State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow also confirmed that the man in the video was Lim’s father.

Declining to elaborate further, Chow said what he heard was Lim’s father had taken some money from several “customers”, but returned it after failing to obtain the low cost houses for them.Chow was speaking to reporters after attending a function in Simpang Ampat here on Monday.
