Duterte: P2-M bounty for cops coddling drug peddlers
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday stressed that he is willing to give a P2 million reward for each slain member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who is allegedly coddling drug lords.
"Today, I might be inclined to place a reward on their head -- the members of the ninja or members of the police who are then protecting the drug syndicates in this country," the President said during the National Heroes Day's rites held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
"I am placing per head P2 million on their head," he added.
The President lamented that despite his staunch war against narcotics, drug peddlers "continue to play the game" since they are protected by some police.
"There are many things also that place us at disadvantage now -- things that would create disorder and disturb the peace. We have a drug crisis that some of are fellow citizens consider just a police problem," Duterte said.
"It (drug problem) has infected every nook and corner of this country, involving generals, mayors, governors, barangay captain, and so many of the ninjas we call them. These are the police who are into it."
Duterte then maintained that he would intensify his campaign against drugs in a bid to suppress it.
As part of his campaign promise to stamp out the drug menace, the President had named police officers who are allegedly involved in drugs and ordered them to come out and tell the truth.(Sunnex)
