IPOH: The religious school here will lodge several police reports over an alleged sexual abuse case involving a 10-year-old student at its hostel in Manjoi.

Pusat Pendidikan Al-Barakah principal Datuk Kazim Elias said the school and those alleged to be involved would lodge the reports on Saturday.

“We didn’t lodge any reports earlier as the name of the school was not mentioned.

“But now that it has been made known, I think we should clear our name,” he told reporters at the school on Friday.

“The allegations are serious and we will cooperate with the police,” said the popular ustaz.

“There’ll be no compromise against those involved,” he added.

It was reported that the parents of a student claimed that their son was sexually abused by other students. The claim went viral on social media.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi said statements were taken from 10 individuals, including students and staff.

On Tuesday, social activist Syed Azmi Alhabshi shared a posting on his Facebook by the victims’ parents, alleging sexual abuse incidents occurring at the religious school.

Kazim said the school investigated the matter before it went viral.

“After receiving a complaint from the parents, we called and met those allegedly involved.

“As this had involved the reputation of the school, religion and myself, I need to act on it,” he said.

“Our investigations found no incidents of sodomy or molest as alleged,” he added.

Kazim said he hoped people would stop making presumptions on social media and let the police investigate.

“I hope people will not jump the gun.

“Whatever being said will have negative perceptions on the school and myself,” he said.“I will discuss with my lawyer on the next course of action against those who turned the issue viral,” he added.
