JOHOR BARU: A mentally disturbed man was pulled to safety after he attempted to jump off the ledge of the Eastern Dispersal Link Highway (EDL) at KM3.7 heading towards Permas Jaya here Tuesday.

Tebrau Fire and Rescue Department Jasni Saidin said firemen at the scene tried to coax the 37-year-old man, who was squatting at a signboard ledge, to come down but to no avail.

“We had to rush behind him and pull him onto the road to safety to avoid any untoward incident,” he said, adding that the man was handed to the police for further action.

“We were also informed that the man was mentally ill but there were no official documents about his condition on him,” Jasni said in a statement here on Tuesday.

He said the department received a distress call at around 1.07pm and deployed six firemen in one fire engine to the scene.

He said that the operation ended an hour later at around 2.08pm.
