He said Zakir Naik is banned in UK and Canada as being considered for spreading teaching that could create violence and terrorism.

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police have decided not to allow controversial preacher Dr Zakir Abdul Karim Naik's programme this weekend to go ahead as scheduled.

He cited public order and religious sensitivities as the reason not to allow the Mumbai-based preacher to deliver his speech.

The preacher is supposed to hold a talk at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) on Sunday, Apr 17.

He is supposed to deliver a talk on “Similarities Between Hinduism & Islam”.

Yesterday, the MIC Youth had lodged police reports on the talk and called on the police not to allow the programme to take place.

MIC Youth chief C.Sivarraajh said the wing was disappointed with UTeM for inviting Zakir Naik.

"Zakir Naik is known for his demeaning tactics to undermine other religions that could spark unrest without weighing the respect and sensitivity of others," he said in a press statement.

Sivarraajh said Zakir Naik is banned in UK and Canada as being considered for spreading teaching that could create violence and terrorism.

"The government and Religious Affairs department should count the sensitivity of his topic whereby he is to stage a comparison about 'Muslim and Hinduism'," he said in his statement.

The wing had also planned to handover a memorandum to the Home Minister and Khalid later today, urging them to stop the programme.

Perlis Mufti Asri Zainul Abidin more known as Dr Maza, on Apr 9 said millions of Muslims have benefited from Zakir Naik's lectures.
