Man caught having unnatural sex jailed a day for bribery
THE STAR
GEORGE TOWN: A curtain installer was jailed for one day for offering a RM100 bribe to a policeman, who caught him having unnatural sex with a woman in a car here.
Ng Siang Gim, 41, was also fined RM10,000 in default six months’ jail after he pleaded guilty to offering the money to L/Kpl Muhammad Norzulkhairee Md Akhir as an inducement not to take action against him for committing the sexual offence in Lorong Abbas, Tanjung Bungah.
Ng, from Air Itam, admitted in the Sessions Court yesterday that he offered the money to L/Kpl Muhammad Norzulkhairee at the Tanjung Tokong police station at 10.30pm on Oct 7 last year.
He had originally claimed trial when he was charged on Jan 20.
The offence under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
In pleading for leniency, lawyer Sukhindarpal Singh from the National Legal Aid Foundation, said Ng was married with three daughters.
Sukhindarpal also said the guilty plea by Ng had saved the court’s time and money.
MACC prosecuting officer Amin Yaacob urged the court to mete out a deterrent sentence, citing the seriousness of bribery cases.
Judge Ibrahim Osman ordered Ng to serve the jail sentence from his date of conviction yesterday.
