Malaysians’ favourite steak house
THE STAR
THERE are few places in town where you can get a good steak, in an environment that is special.
But every steak lover knows where to get the “Best Steak In Town”, and that would be at The Ship Restaurant.
For over 40 years, The Ship is fondly regarded as an enjoyable place to celebrate. The restaurant chain is still a favourite among Malaysians, having recently won several awards, including the Longest Operating Western Thematic Restaurant award from The Malaysian Book of Records.
Much of The Ship’s appeal is in its signature look and feel.
No one else has the facade of a life-sized galleon right in the middle of town.
Much of the wooden furniture, lighting, pictures, artefacts and decorations were exclusively designed and manufactured for The Ship and lend to the charm of the nautical theme. In fact, it has been said that The Ship was Malaysia’s original “themed” restaurant.
The menu at The Ship features a treasure trove of delectable dishes with secret ingredients and recipes created and perfected over many years.
Favourite appetisers at The Ship include the oysters Rockefeller – oysters baked with butter spinach and finely chopped turkey bacon.
For keen oyster guzzlers who prefer it au naturel, it would be easy to go overboard with air-flown New Zealand oysters on half-shell, chilled and served with a cocktail or Tabasco sauce.
Also savoured are the luscious Escargots Bourguinonne – French snails baked in Chablis garlic sauce.
From soup tureens come piping hot, in-house made fresh soups like rich and creamy US seafood chowder or the aromatic French-baked onion soup made with beef stock and liberal amounts of sliced fresh onions to give your soup bite and an almost broth-like consistency.
Since The Ship is a steak house, the range of steaks take centre stage, but the restaurant did not gain the reputation of serving the best steaks in town for nothing.
The prime cuts of beef, ribeye, sirloin, T-bone and fillet Mignon are all done to just the degree customers like them and served as it is or with a selection of sauces.
Another appetising option is the tasty T-bone steak with barbecue sauce, which is mouth-watering from the first cut to the bone.
Desserts at The Ship are unforgettable – from ice creams such as banana splits to fruit platters, there’s a variety for those with a sweet tooth.
And every satisfying meal is completed with sipping a cup of specialty coffee while you soak in The Ship’s enchanting ambience.
