Penang striker Faiz: My goal was no fluke

PENANG: Striker Faiz Subri claimed that his wonder goal against Pahang was “no fluke”.
The 29-year-old said it was normal for him to take shots from dead ball situations.
“It is not a fluke ... I practise taking shots from free kicks. I am stunned by all the attention after scoring this goal. If I have a chance to take another freekick, I’ll try to repeat it,” said the Penangite, who is in his second year with the state football team.
“I only came to know of all this attention after my phone kept ringing non-stop this morning.
Asked how he compared his goal to free-kick specialist Roberto Carlos from Brazil Faiz said:
“Roberto Carlos is a legend ... it is not right to compare.”
The nippy Faiz struck with what is definitely an early contender for goal of the season when his shot, from about 25m out, swerved and dipped into the right corner of Pahang goalkeeper Mohd Nasril Nordin’s net in a Super League match at the City Stadium here on Tuesday. Penang won the match 4-1.
At 12noon on Wednesday, Faiz’s wonder goal had been shared online over 31,000 times with netizens all over the world saying the goal should be considered for the FIFA Puskas Award for the best goal of the year.
