SABAK BERNAM: In a bid to escape from being stopped by a vice squad, a pair of lovers lost control of their vehicle which then plunged into a ditch at Kampung Parit 1 Banat in Sungai Besar, here, early this morning.
At 1am today at a paddy field in Parit 2, a man who is a permanent resident and living in Malaysia since he was 20, was spotted in a car with a woman that was parked at a secluded area.
Sources said the lovers were so carried away that they only realised the presence of a volunteer group on motorcycles when they were in close proximity to the car.
"The village patrolling team had at first spotted the suspicious car parked at a dark and quiet area. It was said they had waited for 10 minutes but the car did not move away," he said.
The source added that when the man realised the presence of the volunteers, he had immediately started the car engine and sped off.
"I was told that one volunteer was almost hit by the car after the patrolling group tried to stop the pair at a dark area. It was believed that the patrolling team tried to move closer to the car but upon reaching the Parit 1 Banat junction, the man lost control of the car and it plunged into the ditch," he said.
He added that the Sabak Bernam Civil Defence Department (JPAM) was then informed of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Sabak Bernam JPAM said it received a distress call at 1.15am.
Four of its personnel arrived at the scene 20 minutes later to save the pair.
It was understood that the man had two wives who are living in separates homes. His first wife is a stroke patient.
The man's second wife said she was shocked to receive a call at 2am saying that her husband was hospitalised at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital, here.
"I went to the hospital and brought him to his first wife's home and I left for my house after. I do not know who that woman was. When I asked, he won't answer. I am embarrassed, but what can I do," she said.
