KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 — Suspended Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be expelled next if he continues to undermine the Umno central leadership, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor said today.
He cautioned the Johor-born that the supreme council has sent a report to its disciplinary board detailing the latter’s criticisms against Umno president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and urged Muhyiddin to desist.
“If he continues to undermine the party, it will destroy the party. We have already sent a report to the disciplinary board. They can sack him if he continues to do things that destroy the party,” Tengku Adnan told reporters after an event here.
The Federal Territories minister also asserted that Umno practised democracy, adding that if it didn’t, Muhyiddin would have been booted out immediately instead of just being suspended from his deputy president post.
“People say we are undemocratic. If we are not democratic, the supreme council would have sacked Muhyiddin immediately, but we did not.
“Because there is the constitution. As the deputy president, his duty is to help the president and take care of the party’s image, but he did not do his duty and also spoilt the party’s image. So we suspended him for that,” Tengku Adnan said.
In a unanimous vote last night, the supreme council agreed to suspend Muhyiddin and appointed vice-president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to fill in the spot in the interim.
Muhyiddin responded in a lengthy Facebook post this morning, saying he would not appeal against his suspension.
But he also said he would push for an overhaul of the country’s public institutions.
The Pagoh MP was dropped from the federal Cabinet in a reshuffle last year, along with another Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
