Ahmad Bashah to be sworn in as Kedah MB on Thursday

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah will be sworn in as the new Kedah Mentri Besar on Thursday at 10am at Istana Anak Bukit.
Kedah State Secretary Datuk Bakar Din said this in a separate press conference on Wednesday after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir announced his resignation as Mentri Besar.
At an earlier packed press conference held at his office in Wisma Darul Aman, Mukhriz said the resignation will take effect immediately.
He said he made the decision to resign as he has lost the majority support of assemblymen in the state assembly.
Mukhriz said he has informed the Kedah Regency Council of his resignation on Tuesday.
"I feel a heavy burden lifted off my shoulders," he said.
Mukhriz said he had also rejected an offer to be a deputy minister offered by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
"I will continue to be vocal. Umno must undergo drastic transformation," he said.
