BUTTERWORTH: A five-year-old girl was physically tortured by her mother whenever she was high on drugs.
Since moving to Kampung Manis more than a month ago, several neighbours claimed that the woman from Kuala Lumpur would constantly abuse the girl.
B. Amutha, 50, said the abuse would go on for the whole day ever since the woman’s husband was jailed in a drug case.
“I advised her against hitting her daughter on several occasions but it fell on deaf ears. Sometimes, I also heard a male voice threatening the girl,” she said at her house.
Another neighbour A. Parames, 45, said the woman would turn the volume of the radio to its maximum during the abuse.
“About a week ago, my sister took pity on the girl and brought her to Seberang Jaya to stay with her for two days. This was when my sister noticed a scar on her head, caused by a pair of scissors, the girl said.
“On Tuesday, my sister noticed that there were more injuries all over her body,” she said.
Parames said her sister then took the girl to the Prai police station and lodged a report at about 3.30pm.
Yesterday, the 41-year-old woman was brought to the Bukit Mertajam magistrate’s court and remanded until Friday.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Rusli Mohd Noor said the woman, who was a drug addict, claimed that she had beaten her daughter because the girl refused to study.
“The girl suffered bruises on her back, left eye and had two broken teeth,” he added.
ACP Rusli said the mother had tested positive for drugs.
“We believe she abused her daughter after taking drugs,” he said.
