KUALA LUMPUR: The motion to decide on Malaysia's participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) has been passed in the Dewan Rakyat
The motion was approved through bloc voting with 127 votes supporting the motion from Barisan Nasional and 84 from the Opposition voting against it.
Once approved in the Parliament, senators from the Dewan Negara will debate and vote on it on Thursday, after which the deal will be formally signed in New Zealand on Feb 4 by all 12 TPPA countries.
The 12 countries are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Japan, United States, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam - creating the biggest free trade area in the world.
These countries form 40% of the world's economy.
