Mechanic jailed, fined RM5,000 for performing ‘Superman’ stunt on motorbike

KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic was jailed five days and fined RM5,000 by the Traffic Court Tuesday after pleading guilty to riding a motorcycle recklessly by performing a 'Superman' stunt, two days ago.
Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan also ordered Muhammad Danial Jamaludin, 21, to serve the prison sentence from the date of his arrest on Jan 24, and to face a further three month jail-term if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the charge, Muhammad Danial, who was using a Kawasaki KR150 motorcycle was said to be riding in a dangerous manner, performing the 'Superman' stunt by placing his chest on the seat cushion, with both his legs suspended straight towards the back.
The accused was charged with committing the offence at Jalan Raja Laut, here, between 9.20pm and 9.25pm, on Jan 24, under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to RM15,000, and losing the right to hold or obtain a driving license for two years, upon conviction.Earlier, prosecuting officer Inspector Hashimah Hashim asked the court to impose an appropriate sentence against the accused.
However, Muhammad Danial, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency as he had a family to look after. - Bernama
