KOTA KINABALU: A nurse had a lucky escape without losing any of her possessions during a snatch theft in the city early Wednesday morning, all thanks to her bravery.
The 27-year-old was walking along an alleyway heading towards the polyclinic she works in at about 6.40am when suddenly a man came down from a vehicle and tried to snatch her handbag.
The woman refused to let go and was dragged into the vehicle where another accomplice was waiting.
Inside, the suspect tried to grab her bag but she fought and screamed for help while she tried with all her might to stop the driver who was speeding off.
Not long afterwards, her handbag was flung out of the vehicle window due to the scuffle.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm M. Chandra said the woman managed to escape when the driver lost control of the car due to the commotion and hit an oncoming four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Both suspects immediately ran out of the car and fled, leaving the woman inside, he said, adding that the vehicle had been reported missing on Jan 14.
ACP Chandra said the woman hurt her leg in the incident and had gone to the police station to lodge a report in the afternoon.
According to her statement, the suspects were two men believed to be in their 20s and 30s, he said, adding that both men wore black T-shirts and dark pants
