PETALING JAYA: Former international Zainal Abidin Hassan has hit out at Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for threatening to suspend Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
The Pahang coach said it was uncalled for the former FAM deputy president to issue the threat at a time when the national football governing body needed assistance.
“What good is to suspend FAM ... he knows government’s interference will lead the national body face world ban by FIFA.
“He (Khairy) was a former FAM deputy president once ... he also failed.
“By right he should have come up with a good solution to solve it not make the situation worst,” said Zainal.
“I played for the nation for 17 years. I too feel for the national team. The 10-0 loss to United Arab Emirates (UAE) is unacceptable but let’s work together to repair the image of Malaysian football,” he said.
