Police have busted the "Estima Gang" – believed to be responsible for a series of parang wielding robberies, following the arrest of five suspects between July 27 to Aug 29
Selangor CID police chief SAC Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the gang, which moved around in a white Toyota Estima, had been active in the Klang Valley for the past few years.
The suspects were nabbed in different locations around the Klang Valley after a special task force was formed in July to track down the gang members.
"The men would go for their victims randomly by driving around residential areas, looking out for residents carrying out chores at their house compounds or who have left their doors or main gates ajar.
"The men who wore ski masks would then barge into the house either through the open main gates or by climbing over the perimeter fence," he told reporters at a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today.
The suspects were aged between 23 and 53 years.
Following the arrests, police recovered few handphones, one gold chain, one Toyota Camry, one Toyota Vellfire and few watches.
Mohd Adnan said the suspects also had previous records for house break-ins and robberies.
"We believe we solved 19 robbery and house break-in cases around the Klang Valley," he said.
Meanwhile in a separate case, Selangor police also crippled a gang involved in house break-ins around Gombak and Rawang with the arrest of six suspects.
Adnan said the suspects were aged between 32 and 42 years old.
"They were arrested in six different locations from Sept 3 to Sept 8.
"We believe we have solved at least 10 robbery cases around Rawang and Gombak," he said adding that the suspects will be remanded until Sept 15 to facilitate investigations.
