.Kuala Lumpur City Hall needs a post-mortem quickly to start discussions on whether the KL City Grand Prix can be hosted next year, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said a decision on continuing to host the KL City Grand Prix would depend on City Hall.

“To host the race, a number of major roads in Kuala Lumpur need to be closed temporarily and therefore, City Hall’s consultation and approval is needed.

“The ministry approved the first race since the cost, safety and responsibilities were handled by an experienced organiser... and with City Hall’s approval,” he told reporters at the ministry’s Aidilfitri celebration at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil, today.

The KL City Grand Prix, held August 7-9, required five major roads to be closed.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor the KL City Grand Prix was a success and had a positive impact, especially for tourism.

The race was watched by tens of thousands of local and foreign motorsport enthusiasts, including tourists.

Tengku Adnan said staging such a race on a street circuit in the city would help promote Kuala Lumpur as a leading motorsport destination that could attract attention worldwide.

“If we look at the statistics, countries like Macau, Hong Kong, Australia, Monaco and even the city of London has staged a GP Race, so we too can promote Kuala Lumpur.

“What is important is that we are bringing the race close to the fans and the people here,” he said. – Bernama, August 10, 2015.
