GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied that he would shut down social media.
"I have asked the police to investigate the matter. Don't regret. Those who spread such rumours have to pay a 'hefty price'.
"Don't spread the ugly lies. Social networking sites are under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
"Don't smear my name. The intention was to portray that I am not familiar with the law," Dr Ahmad Zahid told a press conference after opening the Bayan Baru Umno division annual general meeting at Hotel Equatorial, Sunday.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said the rumour circulated was an attempt to make social media operators hate him.
"Retract your lies now. Don't play with me.
"If the police managed to investigate the culprit, tiada maaf bagimu (there will be no forgiveness)," Dr Ahmad Zahid added.
