KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should continue to engage the people to explain issues of the day.
The Umno president and Prime Minister needs to do this so that the people will have a clearer view of what is happening in the country.
This is among suggestions made by Umno Youth, which also called on ministers, party leaders and machinery to play an active role in interacting with the people.
Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said the movement, which held a closed-door session with Najib, was satisfied with the explanations, stressing that there were no more doubts as the president had cleared the air.
“Now that the president has fully explained everything, we will relay all the information to the rakyat,” he told the media after the 90-minute briefing.
On whether support for Najib was genuine, Khairy stressed that party members would not follow their leaders blindly.
“If we do this, not only will this cause a leader to fall, but the whole Umno ship will sink,” he said.
Khairy urged the Auditor-General to expedite the audit of 1MDB, adding that action must be taken against those found to have abused or misappropriated money from the fund.
Apart from 1MDB issue, the Prime Minister explained other matters, including the purchase of the new government jet, the case of murdered Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu and the crooked bridge that was supposed to have replaced the Causeway.
Papar Umno Youth chief Armizan Mohd Ali said it was time for the party to move on since the president had explained in detail the “hot” issues.
Johor Umno Youth chief Hahasrin Hashim said the issue of a bridge replacing the Causeway had been discussed by the state liaison comittee before.
Federal Territory Youth chief Mohd Razlan Rafii said Najib had addressed questions from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as “clear and detailed as possible”.
