SINGAPORE, April 6, 2015:
A recent report by Statista reveals the highest annual salary earner among the world leaders is Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
According to reports by the Independent and International Business Times which showcased the Statista charts, the son of Singapore’s first Prime Minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew, earned about US$1.7 million (RM6.21 million) per year, equivalent to the combined annual salaries of the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK.
It was reported that previously, Lee would earn upwards to US$2.8 million from 2008 to 2012 but took a 28% cut following public unhappiness.
Second in the list was US President Barack Obama, who came in by a huge difference compared with Lee, earning about US$400,000 per year, nearly one-fourth of the Singaporean premier’s.Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and German Chancellor Angela Merkel came in at third and fourth respectively with annual salaries of US$260,000 and US$234,400.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron earned about US$214,800 yearly, while Japan’s Shinzo Abe took in annually US$202,700.
On the bottom of the list were India’s Narendra Modi who earned US$30,421 and China’s Xi Jinping at US$22,118 yearly, a surprising notion given that both countries were the biggest growing economies in the world.
