District police chiefs and police station heads will face disciplinary action or be tranferred out within 24 hours if unlicensed gambling outlets still exist in their areas of jurisdiction.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief, Datuk Law Hoong Soon said on Oct 14, he had issued an order, giving all district police chiefs and police station chiefs one month to ensure the end of all illegal gambling activities in the federal capital.
"Concerted monitoring by all levels of Kuala Lumpur police will continue and the OCPDs and police station chiefs are required to make a declaration to ensure there are no more unlicensed gambling machines operating in their respective areas," he said in a statement, today.
Law said a monitoring team from the federal police headquarters including from the Integrity and Standards Monitoring Department/Bukit Aman would check on every police district and station in Kuala Lumpur.
"This move is in line with the order from the Inspector-General of Police last Monday for Kuala Lumpur police to intensify conducting of raids. As a result, of the 105 premises checked, only six were reportedly still operating, eight arrests made, and 16 gambling machines and RM955 seized.
"In last night's police operation, all premises carrying out online gambling activities were closed," he said.
Meanwhile, Law said that since last Jan 1 until today, Kuala Lumpur police had conducted 10,666 raids with 20,845 unlicensed gambling machines and RM193,576 seized from the illegal activity.
"Throughout last year, 7,561 raids were conducted with 1,304 arrests made, and 6,905 illegal gambling machines and RM89,809 in cash seized."
Law said this year's figures showed an increase of over 40% in the number of raids, arrests and seizures made by Kuala Lumpur police compared to last year. – Bernama, November 3, 2014.
